6 Ideas For How To Make Money From Home

How can I earn Money from home?

In this post, I want to talk about a question I have asked myself MANY times – How To Make Money From Home. Over the years I have researched, I’ve tried multiple methods and I’ve been involved with most of the things I am going to be talking about.

In this post, I wanted to examine 6 ways that you can start to earn money from home with little or no outlay. You also will need little or no experience for these, they are things you can learn while working.

A quick search on Google for working from home and you will find many offering out there. Some of them ask you to outlay money up front, and some of these could probably make you a good living. However, in this post, I wanted to talk about 6 ideas, 6 ways you can earn money online without having to pay money up front to join.

Now, I will say that for all these suggestions, they are not get rich quick schemes. For all of these you have to work hard to get establish, and for the most part at the beginning, you won’t be earning much.

However, these are longer-term ideas, goals, things to start alongside your regular day job with the hope that you will become highly regarded and sought after – with higher earning potential.

I also wanted to add that, you should not just rely on one of these ways to earn. What you should really have as a goal is to be doing 2, 3 or 4 (if not all 6) of these methods. The more input streams you have, the better.

So, let’s get down to it. Lets example these 6 ways of earning money from home.

Fiverr

In case you’ve not heard of Fiverr before, it’s a freelance service market place. Simply put, freelancers and entrepreneurs put up services they offer for a price, generally starting from five dollars.

You can go onto the site and search for a service, such as the creation of a YouTube intro, and you will see the gigs (the services for sale are called gigs) related to that. You view them, read the details, reviews and if you find one you like you can purchase it. You pay into Fiverr (plus a minimal fee) and then freelancer will do the work.

On the flip side, people can sign up to Fiverr to sell services. You sign up for free, create a gig and wait for someone to purchase.

How you make money

The concept of making money with Fiverr is a simple one. You sign up and then great a gig, something you can do as a freelancer such as a write up a report, great an image, a video, plus hundreds of other services. Check Fiverr for ideas. It has to be something you can provide as you need to offer good service.

You create the gig and then wait for someone to purchase it. You then complete the gig. Once completed successfully you get paid from Fiverr.

When you create your gig you can create a base level gig for, say, $5. You can then add upsells such as complete in 1 day, extra features and so on. Your initial gig maybe $5 but you can make upwards of 10, 20, 50 and even 100 dollars on upsells.

Requirements to get started

To start you need to sign up for Fiver and create a gig. It’s a simple concept, you’re selling a service. For more info check out this video on Fiverr.

YouTube

So, I think most people know of YouTube these days, and it really cemented itself into most peoples everyday entertainment viewing. The great thing is that anyone can produce content for YouTube.

How you make money

It’s quite an easy model on how to earn money through YouTube. You need to have signed up for Google Adsense using the same Gmail address you have used for your YouTube. You then select to monetise your videos when you upload them to YouTube.

One caveat on this system for making money. YouTube has recently changed their policy for monetising your videos.

Recent changes to YouTubs’s policies have set a minimum limit you need to reach to allow you to monetise. To qualify to monetise the videos you need to have a minimum of 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours in the past 12 months.

This isn’t an impossible task, what it does means is that YouTube requires a long-term strategy, good content creation and marketing.

Requirements to get started

To get started with YouTube, the requirements are simple. You need to be able to create videos – you can do this using the camera on your phone or record your desktop if doing project reviews or training.

You then need to create a YouTube account and start uploading the video content you create.

When you have the requirements for the parent program, you need to create a Google Adsense account to use to monetise your videos.

If you’re looking for tips on how to get your channel and videos more popular, then why not take a look at the below video for tips on that subject.

Blogging

When people talk about working from home, I think many first think about either YouTube or blogging – I believe its probably a 50-50 split. But what is blogging, for that few that may not know?

So, a blog is simply a website, but where you may see a website as static pages, pages that may not change that often; generally a blog is a website where the owner posts updates regularly. These generally are posts such as updates in their lives, subjects that are close to them, to be honest, anything that they want to post.

Now, up front, I want to say that, not all blogs make it. When you check the facts, they report that it is estimated over 2 million blogs posts are written every day. So, you need to make sure that your post is something that people will want to read. You then need to market that post, market every post, to get it in front of people eyes.

How you make money

So, with blogging there are 4 ways, that I would suggest, to make money. The first one is affiliate marketing, but I am going to be talking about this later.

The second popular method is to use Google Adsense. This will provide dynamic advertising on the pages and posts that you put it.

The third is to write sponsored posts. Generally, once you have a popular blog, you can put together a media kit and approach companies to see if they would sponsor a post. Generally, this post would be about them, a product of there or some other marketing post. A sponsored post is a marketing post for that company.

The fourth way of monetising is to sell a product of your own. This could be a digital item, such as a downloadable book or application, or you could sell physical items.

Requirements to get started

So, starting a blog can be done one of two ways. You can go down the completely free route and go with WordPress.com or Blogger.com. The upside of these is that you don’t need to pay things such as domain registration or hosting. The downside though is that you don’t get your own domain name, you have limitations on the customisation and the ability to show advertising.

There are payment methods with WordPress.com that offer more functionality and advertising ability, but not so much as if you host the site on your own hosting and domain.

My prefered and suggested method is to host the site yourself. This is not as complicated as it sounds. Firstly you purchase a domain name and then hosting. Most hosting companies, such as BlueHost web hosting, will allow you to purchase the domain name and web hosting at the same time. There is a cost involved with this, a cost for the domain registration and the hosting – but this will give you the best option when it comes to both customising and earning.

When it comes down to it, think of it this way. Would you like your site to be in someone else’s pond, under their control, or in your own pond where you have full control over what you put on to it.

Affiliate Marketing

So, I very briefly mentioned affiliate marketing above, when talking about blogging. In many cases, affiliate marketing will be something you do on or with your blog, but it’s not the only way to do affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is, basically, where your advertising/marketing someone else’s product to sell.

How you make money

When you advertise it you do with a unique web link which has your affiliate id on it. A sale using that ID will give you a defined percentage of the sale.

That percentage changes depending on the company or products you sell through your ID link.

Marketing of the products can be through any channel you want. Many add affiliate links through their blog posts, you will see some affiliate links in this post – as an example. Some will post their affiliate links as part of marketing on their social media channels. Some will send in an email.

Anywhere you can post your affiliate link can be used to market.

Requirements to get started

Requirements for affiliate marketing are different depending on the affiliate schemes you sign up for. Some require you to have a webpage which they look at to see if it meets the needs of their brand. Some just require you have active social media such as YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and so on.

The only requirement that is constant is that you need to signup for an affiliate marketing. There are many companies now that have affiliate programs, you need to find those that match you and your webpage or social media, and apply. It should cost nothing to apply for an affiliate marketing program, so if you find one that asks you to pay a fee – avoid.

Dropshipping

What is dropshipping? Well, I think a great definition is given on the Shopify website:

Dropshipping is a retail fulfillment method where a store doesn’t keep the products it sells in stock. – Shopify

As it says, dropshipping is a retail fulfilment method, in that, you advertise items on an online store, people buy items and they get shipped to them. The big difference is that with dropshipping you never have stock.

How it works is that you have a dropshipping relationship with a supplier. You advertise the products on your online store and people purchase them from you. When paid, you order and purchase the item from the supplier who then ships the item directly to the buyer.

You never hold stock. If a return is required it goes back to the supplier. You manage the sale of the item, kind of like a middle person.

How you make money

To make money with dropshipping you have to sell. You arrange a retail cost of the item in your relationship with the supplier. You then advertise the item on your online store with a sales markup for your profit.

When the item is purchased the money goes into your account. You then pay for the item from the supplier and they ship it to the buyer. The markup is how brick and mortar shops have made money for years, the difference is that you never hold the stock yourself. This also means that the only start-up costs are the creation of the site and time invested in making the relationships with the suppliers.

Requirements to get started

To get started, you need to spend some time creating the relationships with the suppliers. You also need to register and create your site. Many people use Shopify for their online dropshipping site. They have some great options and it’s easy to create your store – although you can always create a store in WordPress or thorough HTML – though this may take a little more effor.

Online Training Course

This is something I spent some time trying out myself. A few years ago some of the bloggers and online community I followed started selling courses on an online education providing website called Udemy.

To understand more on the subject I went over to their site, tried out some of the courses and produced some of my own.

How you make money

So the concept of making money is quite simple. Now there are a number of different course providers on the Internet today, and many have their own ways of providing you with some income.

Some of these sites provide a monthly subscription model, where you get an amount of payment depending on how many hours of your content is consumed. Some sell your course for a one-time payment, and there are other models.

I will be looking at the one-time payment method, selling through the Udemy platform. The first thing you need to do is to signup to Udemy and become an instructor.

You then create a course on a subject you know. Most courses are based on video content. These videos range from a person on screen giving a lecture to videos showing a screen capture of an application or presentation – with commentary. Some lectures are separated by written content.

To get your course publish, there are quality checks and procedures to complete, but once publish Udemy will take care of the course hosting, do some marketing (though it’s also best to market yourself), and for which they take a percentage of each sale.

There are big sellers and there are courses that make little money – some courses are free. The great thing is, once your course is complete and on the site, it’s a passive income.

Requirements to get started

Like with YouTube, you need to be able to create content. Creation of online courses may fall more on recording your desktop and presentation more than making a video of yourself.

You may want to invest in an application such as Camtasia to record your training videos.

If you would like to learn more about creating courses to earn money, I have created a limited number of FREE coupons for a course I created on how to create online courses because I want you to be successful at this too. Conclusion – How To Make Money From Home

Listed here are 6 ways of how to make money from home now. I listed all these methods because everyone can do 1, 2 or more with little or no cost and just some time and effort.

I would suggest not doing just one of them, I would suggest doing 2, 3 or even more. More finance input streams mean’s more money earnt. Try creating some online courses, or YouTube videos for example – passive money earning. Then add a dropshipping site to your portfolio. Build up a portfolio of ways to earn money from home.

Remember, all these are longer team money earners – so don’t expect to start earning lots instantly. If you want to have your own work from home empire, you need to work on it and build it up slowly. That’s how I plan to do it, and that what I recommend for you too.

Note: This post contains some affiliate links. If you click on these and make any purchase, it does not cost you anything extra; we would get a percentage of that purchase price for the marketing of that product link.
