The 5 Best Office Chairs under $200

The 5 Best Office Chairs under $200 for 2018

In an earlier post, I talked about making your home office a comfortable place to be and work. In today’s offices, you can spend 8-10 hours (sometimes more) sitting at your desk, working, answering emails and calls and various other tasks.

Studies show that as the economies of our world Move to intellectual and computer work, the numbers of people sitting all day at work are constantly on the rise. You are most likely reading this very article from while sitting in your office. It’s certainly no secret that sitting too often is not ideal for your health, but it also isn’t realistic for us all to stand all day while working long hours.

So, in conclusion, if sitting down all day is a big part of your daily work, your office chair choice is an important consideration to undertake.

Great chair for better health

A well-designed chair can better for your body. Opting instead for a cheaply made and low-quality chair may save money now, but it will potentially contribute to future issues which may include pain in your shoulders and neck. Take it from me as I have found this myself, I have persistent neck ache through constant sitting and using chairs that were not designed too well.

So, choosing a quality chair is crucial for your health, but that isn’t the only factor to think about. You may also want to think of the aesthetics of the chair and its fitting in with your office surrounds. If at any point someone may visit your home office, you want it to look a professional place to work.

So, we’ve thought about the design and how it relates to your body. Something else that relates to this is the comfort. You need to take into consideration the comfort level of the chair as you may be spending long amounts of time sitting in it. A well-designed chair for your body may not be comfortable as well, so time and consideration need to be made to pick a chair that has a great design for your body and is also comfortable to sit in for longer periods.

Don’t be distracted by a visually stunning chair as it may not be comfortable or of a good design. Being distracted by physical discomfort from lower quality chairs will be detrimental to your performance.

The ergonomics of your chair

This is a great time to also talk about the ergonomics of a chair. Ergonomics, or human engineering as it is also called; in the online dictionary is defined as ‘the study of people’s efficiency in their working environment’.

Think of it as the science of design for human equipment. Ergonomics is studied so that we can reduce operator discomfort when using equipment, as well as reducing fatigue and maximize productivity.

Ergonomics is all around us. The mouse and keyboard you use, details and instructions you read on how to best use them. Desks and chairs are a great example of items where the difference in good and bad ergonomics can be seen and felt.

An ergonomically designed chair is comfortable and generally thought is put into body posture so that you won’t suffer from fatigue or pain. These considerations obviously matter, but some might still think that having their hands and desk at the proper height and position will be enough to make up for a poorly designed office chair. The thing is, the back support you receive from your chair is crucial for maintaining your health as you sit for long periods at work.

The things to look out for in a quality chair is that it gives you proper pelvic and lumbar support. Many chairs have adjustable support to allow you to customise it to your own body. Unfortunately, not every chair gives the support needed, and plenty of people spend day after day sitting at their jobs, which makes it obvious why so many suffer from back and neck pain.

Think of it this way, the correct posture that a quality chair can provide (which should include a properly aligned spine) promotes better concentration and endurance and will provide better comfort through your day. A poor posture can lead to headaches and fatigue, and in addition, can cause potential issues to arise in your shoulders, neck, and back.

Looking for an office chair

If you’re looking for an office chair on a semi-strict budget, the sub $200 chair options will give you the comfort and support you need without draining your funds. That said, there are a few things you may want to look for in an office chair.

  1. Ergonomic support. Having just spent some time talking about the benefit of ergonomics and how it supports you and your body, to me, this is the number 1 things to look for. Your chair should have been designed especially for keeping your posture erect, healthy, and comfortable – which included good back and lumbar support.
  2. Comfortable. You’re going to be sitting at your desk in your chair for potentially long periods every day. You’ve picked one with great support, but you also want it to be comfortable and physical discomfort can be detrimental to your work.
  3. Highly adjustable. This is in line with the previous 2 items we’ve talked about. You want your chair to be highly adjustable so that you can customize the ergonomics and comfort to fit your body. Everyone has a different size and shape to their body, meaning that adjustability is a crucial feature when selecting the appropriate office chair.
  4. Professional look. You need to maintain a professional look to your office space. So, when considering a chair, make sure it fits in with your office design and gives a professional finish to your office.
  5. Easy to assemble. Most chairs these days come ready to assemble. You don’t want to have to spend hours of your time assembling furniture, so the ideal produce will come with everything you need to put together and will be easy to assemble.

So all that said, here’s my list of the best office chairs under $200 and why they offer great value, comfort, and quality all in one package.

While researching my 5 Best Office Chairs under $200, I would have to say that this chair is probably the most well-reviewed chair in this price range.

Like the previous chairs, this chair has an ergonomic design and has a breathable mesh back for keeping you cool and comfortable on those warmer days.

One thing the reviews did say is that unlike many chairs in this price range, the Alera chair offers a contoured seat cushion with a waterfall edge and premium upholstery that helps take pressure off your legs.

The reviews also pointed out that the supportive back encourages a proper posture which is to alleviate lower back pain.

On the negative side, the Alera chair lacks some of the adjustment features of some of the previously mentioned chairs, but you can adjust the tilt tension, seat height, and arm height and width to adjust the chair to your body. (Check here for the latest price of this chair on Amazon)

Lorell High Back Multi Task Chair

Many office chairs under the $200 price point have great, but basic features. The good thing about the Lorell High Back Multi Task chair is that it provides you with some adjustable options to go along with the basics.

On the Lorell High Back Multi Task chair (model LLR81100) the seat height is adjustable from just under 19 inches to just over 22 inches. The backrest is separate from the seat cushion (many seats have a fixed frame) which allows you to adjust the height of up to 2 inches and it has a lumbar support area.

One of the drawbacks of this chair though is that there is no tilt feature for the chair. You can, however, angle the backrest. (Check here for the latest price of this chair on Amazon).
